A Little Contradiction

The 2023 Tenor Lawrence Grenache is a little bit of a contradiction—in the best possible way. Sourced from Corfu Crossing and Thunderstone vineyards in the Royal Slope AVA, this 100% Grenache brings serious richness and depth wrapped in a surprisingly silky frame. Bold enough to make a statement, smooth enough to make it look effortless. Who says you can't have it both ways?

After four vintages with their fair share of drama, 2023 was a welcome return to normal. Typical timing. Typical yields. Typical harvest dates. Boring? Maybe. We loved every minute of it. A warm May erased a slow start to spring, while steady summer conditions and a cooler finish gave the fruit time to develop exceptional flavor and maturity without being rushed. For the winemaking team, that consistency was a gift—great wine was simply easier to make.

Hand-harvested in October, the fruit underwent a warmer, 14-day fermentation entirely in oak barrels, with 20% whole-cluster inclusion to build complexity and structure. The wine then spent a total of 30 days in contact with the grape skins, developing additional depth and texture. From there, it was aged for 23 months in 100% new oak, bringing polish and dimension to its naturally expressive character.

The result is a Grenache that knows how to balance power with finesse. Layers of black raspberry, black cherry, cracked peppercorn, and dried rose petals meet savory herbs and earthy undertones. Full-bodied and richly textured, the palate delivers impressive concentration with a supple, silky finish and a touch of mineral tension. It's bold, beautiful, and anything but predictable.

Bottled on September 8, 2025, just three barrels were produced, yielding a mere 74 cases. A Grenache with plenty of muscle, a little mystery, and all the right moves.
