2021Grenache

The 2021 Tenor Grenache was crafted from the Thunderstone and Corfu Crossing vineyards within the Royal Slope AVA. The winemaking team worked with vineyard managers to restrict yields, creating small, concentrated berries. Thoughtful canopy management and intensive irrigation strategies were implemented. Cool fall nights preserved a sense of freshness in the wine while continuing flavor development. The fruit was hand-harvested early in the morning throughout October.

Upon arriving at the winery, the fruit was cluster sorted with 80% destemmed and berry sorted before it was added on top of 20% whole cluster fruit. The wine spent 30+ days on skins for extended maceration before being barreled down into varying formats new French oak. The wine was cellared for 20 months, with 5 barrels selected and carefully blended. The wine was bottled unfined and unfiltered to ensure the wine in bottle is as pure and vibrant, producing only 132 cases.

Only one clone was used in the final blend of this wine (Grenache: 3).

Tasting Notes

The deep, saturated garnet color creates a distinct 2021 Tenor Grenache. Intense aromas of blackberry reduction, black forest cake, and vanilla powder are supported by a woodsy incense. On the palate it is equally sappy with blueberry Danish, molasses, and a hint of tarragon. This almost full-bodied wine is seductive and expansive on the palate with ripe, luxurious tannins. The long finish excites with blood orange, baking spice, and milk chocolate flavors.

Awards & Accolades

"The 2021 Tenor Grenache was sourced from the Thunderstone and Corfu Crossing Vineyards in the Royal Slope AVA. The nose comes off very pretty with potpourri aromatics, followed by guava puree, orange blossom and suggestions of ripe Yakima cherry. The palate is soft and refined with a smooth texture, as this glides throughout the drinking experience. While stored in 100% new French oak, this does not display major oak influence. Finishing long, showing mouth-watering acidity with pretty red fruits and exotic spices, this beauty is absolutely singing now."
