2016 Tenor Malbec

Tenor Malbec is true both to the brand and the grape. Like all Tenor wines, it is richly textured, fruit forward, and unabash- edly opulent. But true to the varietal, it is fresh, beautifully perfumed and supremely silky. If you love malbec, you’ll love the way Tenor malbec accentuates the notes that define this varietal, and even if you don’t drink a lot of

"Very attractive, ripe dark fruit, earth and crushed red flowers that are boldly expressed and lead to a palate full of rich dark-plum aromas and flavors. The structure is fluid yet sturdy and delivered boldly for enjoyment in its youth. Drink now."

Tasting Notes

Bright and energetic, this wine will open up well with time in the bottle. A touch more floral and feminine in its youth, the 2016 Tenor Malbec will put on weight quickly with time.

Scores & Reviews

"The 2016 Malbec also has plenty of upfront oak yet backs it up with beautiful blue fruits (smells like a blueberry pie), chalky minerality, and complex, incense, spice, and floral notes. It's ripe, has beautiful purity, a fleshy, sexy texture, and no hard edge, all making for a thrilling wine."

"The 2016 Malbec sways with chocolaty black and blue fruit expressions and subtle oak spice tones. Medium to full-bodied, the palate has a tight and astringent grip over the palate, showcasing bitter dark chocolate, blueberries and dusty plum essence before turning to dark red fruit, black raspberry and cherry across the mid-palate. The wine concludes with a tannic edge and lingering river rock essence."

"All the fruit for this wine comes from Stillwater Creek Vineyard on the Royal Slope. Barrel aromas are out front, with notes of cocoa, mint, flowers, plum, asphalt, green wood and blackberry. The palate is soft and textured, showing pleasing complexities on the finish. The wood shows a bit prominently at present, but there's a lot behind it."
90 points - Sean Sullivan

"Bright ruby. High-toned, slightly liqueur-like aromas of cassis, blackberry, violet and licorice. Then high-pitched and dense on the palate, communicating an element of tension to its savory flavors of black cherry and spices complicated by graphite and flowers. A step up in delineation and length from the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon. Finishes firmly tannic but not dry."

Additional Information about this Vintage

Drinking / food suggestions The Tenor Malbec will pair well with roasted dark meats, or slow braised brisket. The soft tannins allow this full-bodied wine to pair well with sage, creamy sauces, mushrooms and blue cheese.

Harvest The Malbec lots are picked primarily at first light or at night when temps are lower. The grapes are hand sorted at the vineyard and then shipped to the winery in refrigerated trucks. Fruit arrives at the winery, still cold, and then is sorted again to ensure only pristine clusters are going into the wine.
