2013Cabernet Sauvignon

[Sold Out]

This is a classic cab: ripe, fruit forward and opulent. But it’s also balanced. We wanted create a wine that exemplified the boldness of Cabernet Sauvignon but also embraced its inherent texture and richness... a hugely concentrated wine that doesn’t rely solely on peel-your-teeth tannin for its structure. To achieve that, we really focus on maintaining tension throughout the winemaking process, continually topping and re-racking to keep as much youthful fruit as possible. Tenor Cabernet is thick and rich and unapologetically showy. That heavy mouthfeel is supported by superfine tannin, and we work hard to achieve that intense texture without letting the tannin overwhelm the other notes. As a result, the wine maintains it fruit integrity and freshness it ages, which really allows the complexity of flavors—currants, cassis, spice and plums—to show through.

Tasting Notes

Gorgeous, sweet smoke, spice and cassis mixed with a plum and blueberry puree. Lightly roasted coffee and cocoa powder add to the nose with some air. The mouthfeel is absolutely stunning, with opulent textures, never ending fruit and flawless tannins.

Awards & Accolades

"Leading off the 2013s, the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon was fermented in stainless steel and then aged 19 months in 77% new French oak. Showing the focused, more narrow style of the vintage, this medium to full-bodied Cabernet exhibits outstanding notes of charcoal, wood smoke, black fruits and a pan dripping-like meatiness to go with ripe tannin, good mid-palate depth and a great finish. Give it a few years and drink bottles through 2033."

-92+ points, Jeb Dunnuck, The Wine Advocate

"Deep ruby. Ripe, expressive aromas and flavors of cassis, black cherry, licorice and bitter chocolate. Wonderfully supple, concentrated and mouthfilling, offering a subtle savory character but also noteworthy inner-palate energy. This Cabernet comes across as less tannic than the 2013 Merlot as the tannins are sweeter, but winemaker Morell noted that the Cabernet actually has a higher level of anthocyanins. Incidentally, Morell assured me that the 2008 version of this wine is still a baby."

-92 points, Steven Tanzer, Vinous

"This 100% varietal wine opens with brooding aromas of vanilla bean, herb, tobacco and black fruit still seemingly quite closed. The palate packs a mouthful of black-fruit flavors that show richness and deftness. The finish lingers."

-90 points, Sean Sullivan, Wine Enthusiast

"Supple and savory, with dark berry and bittersweet chocolate aromas and plump, well-built plum and spice flavors. Drink now through 2022. 171 cases made."

-90 points, Tim Fish, Wine Spectator
